From Streets to Skills: Empowering Beggars Through Education and Talent Development to Break the Cycle of Poverty

Note: This short video demonstrates the relevance of this topic and was captured from The Mahabharat Katha

One of the three main issues that the world's poor face is poverty, which is strongly tied to conditional human development. Both the individual's and society's overall development are seriously hampered by it. Despite concentrated efforts and substantial gains in many areas, global poverty remains one of the most challenging challenges of the twenty-first century (In Kali Yuga). In its many forms, poverty encompasses more than just a lack of financial resources; it also involves a lack of opportunities for advancement. To address this complex issue effectively, comprehensive interventions are necessary that target its structural causes and empower individuals to break free from intergenerational cycles of poverty. Everyone agrees that education is essential to societal growth, individual empowerment, and national advancement. Some of the varieties of problems that occur in the improvement of our education system can be attributed to a source.

According to the Bhagavad Gita, it says....

विद्याविनयसम्पन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि |
शुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिताः समदर्शिनः || 5.18

Explanation:

This verse emphasises spiritual equality—those who have true wisdom (jnana) see the same divine essence (Atman or Brahman) in all living beings, regardless of their external differences (caste, species, social status, etc.). This reflects the non-discriminating, universal vision of the truly wise, who do not judge by body, background, or behaviour but by the inner Self that is common to all.

सर्वयोनिषु कौन्तेय मूर्तयः सम्भवन्ति याः |
तासां ब्रह्म महद्योनिरहं बीजप्रदः पिता ||

Explanation:

This verse clearly states that all beings, regardless of their form or species, are born from the same universal source—Brahman (prakriti). Krishna claims to be the seed-giving father (bīja-pradaḥ pit), implying that God is the source of all beings, and all have equal divine origin.

चातुर्वर्ण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागशः।
तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्ध्यकर्तारमव्ययम्॥
— भगवद्गीता ४.१३

Explanation:

The fourfold division of human society (chātur-varṇya) was created by me based on the distinctions of guṇa (qualities) and karma (activities). Though I am the creator of this system, know Me to be the non-doer and eternal.

"मया ततमिदं सर्वं जगदव्यक्तमूर्तिना।
मत्स्थानि सर्वभूतानि न चाहं तेष्ववस्थितः॥" 9:4

Translation:

By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them.

🪔 This explains that everything exists in Krishna, but He remains beyond the material existence.

According to the NITI Aayog-Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), the report states that MP comes in fourth position because of poverty reasons (2.5 Cr people are in poverty state). In between, Alirajpur has the highest backwards area at 68.8% and Barwani 61% (approx.). After MP, Meghalaya took the fifth spot as the poorest state in India. One of the few 0.71% of the population is poor in Kerala, which is one of the most literate states in India. Then, Goa, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab have registered the lowest poverty figures as per reports. MPI has equally evaluated them based on education, health, and way of living, which indicates the material conditions of their house, including electricity, water supplies, nutrition, bank accounts, assets, and sanitation. UN-Habitat reported that municipal corporations have identified 209 locations as slums in Bhopal capital of MP.  The existing pocket scenario continues to grow into a significant problem. Because of a lack of understanding and assistance for those in need. The issue affects those who are underprivileged and do not have access to food, which leads to human inequalities and uncertain business development when left unchecked. That could lead to illegal conduct and undesirable behaviour because of poor unconscious behaviour. In addition to being necessary for recovery, this procedure has the potential to alter human nature and mental growth.

Causes of Poverty

The state of the environment and the political structure of their government determine this.

Let us embark on an exploration of Africa.....,

Africa's population is to quadruple to 2.5 billion people. Because job creation, economic development, and education are not keeping up. Hunger results from the displacement and relocation of people to cultivate agricultural crops during the Civil War in countries that became part of Sudan, such as Mali, which frequently leaves children homeless or estranged from their families. Rising temperatures, floods, and storms are destroying crops in countries like Burundi, Comoros, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Liberia, Mayotte, Rwanda, and São Tomé and Príncipe, further impoverishing families. In Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, the biggest outbreak of diseases like HIV, malaria, and Ebola occurred between 2014 and 2016, resulting in over 28,000 cases and more than 11,000 fatalities. Their family suffered as a result, and they continue to suffer in the following generation.

According to a World Bank report, over ten years, 171 million individuals in India were lifted out of extreme poverty. According to a later World Bank assessment, 5.75% of Indians are currently living in material poverty, compared to 27% in 2011–12. The income barrier that establishes who is deemed impoverished in a certain economy is known as the poverty line. India's poverty has multiple reasons. Social services, productive work, institutional credits, and inequality. caste system, social issues, unemployment, a lack of agricultural units, and inadequate urban planning.

Indian Government Initiatives

Adopting policies based on what are known as income, education, and opportunity disparities is necessary to combat poverty. Assist the appropriate individual who is committed to transforming the surroundings. In order for them to obtain a decent career or earn money from their profession, the elements are somewhat reliant on their hobbies and working abilities. Social cohesion and general well-being can be enhanced by minimising economic and opportunity gaps across individuals, communities, and regions. It is vital to give opportunities to everyone who needs them and can work with them, since political considerations have made jobs and working conditions incredibly terrible. The government must offer credit-free health and education services to worthy candidates and members of marginalised social groups.
